America Reads
at Penn State DuBois |
What Is It?
America Reads is a federally funded work-study program. Penn State DuBois students who receive work-study grants may work in reading or math related programs off-campus as their sole work-study job or in conjunction with an on-campus work-study job. Opportunities include tutoring preschool and elementary school children in reading, tutoring children up to eighth grade in math, or working with Family Literacy agencies. For more information about the program at Penn State DuBois, contact Dr. Pamela Hufnagel at pph1@psu.edu or call at (814) 375-4839.
Getting Started
Use the materials below to find out more about America Reads. The handbooks were written with University Park in mind, and the pay scale is not up-to-date, but they will still give you a nice overview of the program. Most tutors from Penn State DuBois work in elementary schools under the supervision of classroom teachers, but other placements are possible. Students work with Dr. Hufnagel to secure their own placements.
