Classroom Policies and Grading

BEHAVIOR: Students are expected to conduct themselves in an acceptable, 
business-like manner at all times.  Disruption of the class cannot be 
tolerated, since it is unfair to the instructor and to the other students 
in the class!

TARDINESS: Please make every attempt to arrive to class on time.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: "Academic integrity is the pursuit of scholarly 
activity free from fraud and deception and is an educational objective of 
this institution and this instructor.  Academic dishonesty includes, but is not 
limited to, cheating, plagiarism, fabrication of information or citations, 
facilitating acts of academic dishonesty by others, unauthorized prior 
possession of examinations, submitting work of another person or work 
previously used without informing the instructor, or tampering with the 
academic work of other students."  (Policies and Rules for Students, Section 
49-20).  Consult your Student Handbook for further details.  Cases of 
academic dishonesty will incur a grade of zero on that item in the first 
offense. Other penalties may include failure of the course or dismissal 
from school.

CLASS PARTICIPATION:  Daily class participation is critical to 
your success in this course.  You are encouraged to participate 
and to ask questions.  Talk with me if you are having trouble before it 
becomes too serious. Class participation and attendance may be used by 
the instructor to determine grade in borderline cases.

ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE TURNED IN ON TIME.  I reserve the option of not 
accepting late assignments.

GRADING:  Your grade in this class is determined by tests and
assignments using a point system.  The points allocated to each test or
assignment depend the number of tasks included.  In Lab courses, your lab 
assignments count for 40% of your grade. Tests, exams, and other 
assignments comprise 60% of the grade.  
  Your final grade is determined by the following percentages of total
points accumulated divided by total possible points.

          100 - 94       A       93 - 90   A-
           89 - 86       B+      85 - 82   B      81 - 78  B-
           77 - 74       C+      73 - 69   C
           68 - 58       D
           Below 58      F
You are required to have knowledge of all the topics covered in the 
syllabus course outline. NO MAKEUP TESTS are given.  If you miss a test,
I will drop the test if the following conditions are met.  However I will
only make this exception one time for a student with an emergency.
   1) You must call me the day of the test if you cannot make it, then 
within one week of the test, document as best you can your reason for missing.
   2) You must submit your class notes and assignment notebook showing 
your daily work within one week of the test.
   3) You must demonstrate a working knowledge of the material on the test 
by arrangement with the instructor within one week of the test.
   4) You must be present for the comprehensive exam during exam week.  
Make sure you check the exam schedule before making travel arrangements for 
the end of the semester.
