As for who I am and what I do, I like techy stuff—and creating stuff. I’m a master candidate in for a M.Ed. in Learning, Design, and Technology (LDT) at the Pennsylvania State University. I’ve had the chance to take some pretty awesome courses from some even cooler professors. To name a few, Design Studio (LDT 550), Disruptive Technologies in Teaching and Learning (C I 597G), and Digital Media and Learning (INSYS 549) all have been challenging and rewarding; I classify them as some of the best courses I have taken in my educational career.
Professionally, I am an Instructional Production Specialist with the College of Nursing at Penn State. I serve as the Webmaster for several websites built on Drupal 7. I am responsible for creating and managing content, but this does not involve any backend server support, though. I also serve as the Mediasite Manager, providing video recording services to faculty at University Park and the Hershey campuses. When Mediasite fails to meet the needs of individual faculty members, I work with them in identifying alternative solutions—VoiceThread, desktop recordings via Zoom, and even custom videos using a GoPro or DSLR camera. Apart from video services, I work closely with two instructional designers in designing and revising residential and online nursing courses in ANGEL. We are currently in the process of migrating our courses from ANGEL to the new course management system, Canvas. Additionally, I support all nursing faculty and staff with the multimedia needs of the college, including HTML marketing emails via MailChimp, graphic design needs, and miscellaneous video projects. I also serve as the Digital Signage Content Coordinator, provide AV support to faculty in instructional spaces, and provide backup IT support.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Penn State Altoona. During my undergraduate studies, I developed and honed a wide range of skills including but not limited to basic web design and development (e.g., HTML, CSS, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, SFTP), video production (e.g., Final Cut Pro 7, iMovie, nonlinear editing, Soundtrack Pro, Motion, Compressor), and telecommunications and journalism (e.g., broadcasting, social media marketing, advertising, news writing and reporting, public relations). I also worked as an Off-Campus Help Line Technician for the Office of Information Technology. I provided tier one support to faculty, staff, and students
My graduate studies interests include technology-enhanced learning (TEL), gaming, digital badging, wearable technologies, connected learning, participatory cultures, and social media. I have a wild curiosity for the unknown and a childlike excitement for learning new technologies. I have a desire to help others, a heart full of adventure, and a zealous passion for life. I love to travel, discover new places, and meet new people.
