CLASS PRESENTATION WITH TECHNOLOGY

I tried as much as possible to put up materials on computer file and projects it to the screen during the lecture, the image is bigger and clearer compared to blackboard writing. The downside is the amount of time spent to prepare the materials before hand. In the class, I find it easier and less time consuming to write down explanation in the Word and project it to the screen, rather than my previous method of writing it on the blackboard or the transparencies. The only time I still need to use the blackboard is when I have to draw a diagram or write complicated formulas on the spot.

Class presentation should not be limited to powerpoint, I find that powerpoint works best to present descriptive or list of principles or procedures.  In this Engineering Economy course, I only use powerpoint to present Chapter 1 (pdf file, 223 Kb) since it’s a descriptive introduction about the principles and approaches used in Engineering Economy.  For the subsequent chapters, more concept and calculations must be explained, therefore a combination of Word, Excel, Visio work well for the lecture.

Whenever it’s called for, I also show some relevant websites and online economic analyzer tools in the class lab session:
