Motivation has to deal with why people choose to engage in the behaviors they do. These behaviors do not have to be academic; they can be social, spiritual, etc. There are two ways to look at motivation:

  • Regulatory - It's the body's reaction to disruptive forces.
  • Purposive - It is the goal directed nature of behavior - not to
    alleviate the drive but rather direct it toward a purpose.
