Conceptual Change

Description

Description

Cognitive change addresses both dramatic and everyday changes to one's conceptual structures. These alterations can occur without fanfare or great effort.

More closely associated with math and science domains due to the well-structured problems, but can happen in any domain.

Occurs at different levels:

Accretion or Assimilation - Simplest and most common form that usually involves the elaboration of existing knowledge structures.

Tuning or weak restructuring - Minor modifications or alterations of existing mental structures.

Radical Restructuring - Formation of new foundational concepts that develop into new views about the world.
