Comment on "New York City"

The city and political figures in this area keep harping on the fact that we lose 99% of young people to larger, more fast paced moving cities, that have more to offer. Don't get me wrong, drinking isn't everything, but having the opportunity to go out with other young people and socialize is something that Harrisburg severly lacks. Any other major city, there are people out every single night of the week, especially closer to the weekends (i.e. Thursday) b/c restaurants and bars offer specials and fun things to do. In Harrisburg, it is the complete opposite...you might catch a few people out on Thursday, but not many.

Again, I could go on forever here, but younger people (right out of college) will continue to go where there are more services offered (jobs, professional sporting teams...not the Senators, and opportunities to meet other young people in their same situation).

- WESLEY DOUGLAS REOHR

That is an interesting point; offering (encouraging) certain services in an area to attract a particular audience. I wonder if that is even considered when they are spending money on planning how to keep young people in PA. I know they offer school payback incentives if you promise to work in PA after college (invent Pa); but encouraging (easing up on some of the overly strict and pointless laws) services to open up or be offered that are attractive to a younger generation would help. If I keep going I will stray off topic of service.

- RENEE MARIE BALLIET

Comment on "Location, Location, Location"

The revenue they had to buy the location couldn't have been alot. However, the cost of leasing or renting a space in this area can't be too pricey (comparing that to major cities). In all honesty, someone told me about the buffet and I drove up and down the Carlisle Pike trying to find it. It finally dawned on me that it was in the back corner of the strip mall. They don't do much advertising and concentrate strictly on price.

Just like the housing market, location is everything. I could live in Harrisburg and have row home that sells for $200K, move down a block and have the same row home and it wouldn't sell for $100K, b/c of the location. I think putting in more money on their location would have done them a world of good. Each time I've gone, there hasn't been more than 10 people there at the same time.

- WESLEY DOUGLAS REOHR

We talk a lot about the importance of location impacting sales. Along with great locations come extremely high real estate costs. National or regional companies, ie Sheetz and McDonalds, have the capital and store planning resources to land these prime locations. I am not sure how big Friends and Family is, but maybe they did not have the capital (High start up costs) to afford a prime location. A prime location may also not be as important to their business model as low prices, quality of service and advertising. You were able to find the location AND it sounds like you will be going back.

- DARREN M PUGH

Comment on "Virgin Atlantic"

That was the best part...I chose this airline out of dumb luck because it was the least expensive flight. The only other carrier that was in the ball park was British Airways. Every US Carrier wasn't even close to the Virgin Atlantic Price. I would have been pissed it I would have paid $1,000 for a flight on US Airways and got the same crappy service that I usually get from them.

- WESLEY DOUGLAS REOHR

Sounds like Richard Branson really knew what he was doing when he started the idea of treating the customers like royalty when flying on his airline. I know that I'm looking to go to Europe at some point next year and after hearing this story I will definitely keep VA in mind when booking a flight. My only question is, was the price substancely more than the average ticket, or was it reasonable considering all that you got for it?

- PATRICK JAMES ROSENELLA

I completely agree, sometimes it really isn't worth the hassle. I think my hunger is what made me go back. I wish people could just be perfect all the time! Wishful thinking, I guess. :)

- WESLEY DOUGLAS REOHR

A good lesson on learning to complain about a service and having it rectified. I usually don't want to complain because I do not feel like I have the extra time to deal with it - sometime it feels like more of a hassle then it is worth. But after reading your experience it sounds like it may be time well spent.

- CYNTHIA CRUZ MEIER
