For more than twenty years Penn State - University Park campus has offered a comprehensive honors program to students of exceptional ability in all majors. The Schreyer Honors College provides the best of a small college liberal arts experience within a major research university, with hundreds of student organizations and activities from which to choose. Each year, the SHC offers over 220 honors courses. The majority of those courses are comprised of twenty-five students or fewer and all are taught by selected members of the faculty. Scholars can satisfy honors credit requirements through independent research, upper-level or graduate courses (depending on their standing), and “honors options” for regular courses. Most honors courses are available on a space-available basis to Penn State students who are not Schreyer Scholars.

Admission to the Schreyer Honors College is through application. Entering freshmen may apply at the time they submit their application to Penn State University. Students that earn a 3.7 cumulative GPA may apply at the end of the freshman year (the Sophomore Gate) or the end of the sophomore year (through the Junior Gate). Current students at Penn State Brandywine should contact Dr. Guertin if interested in applying for the Schreyer program.

Students have the opportunity to participate in the Schreyer Honors College while attending the Penn State Brandywine campus. Students may be Schreyer Scholars during their first two years before transferring to the University Park campus to complete a degree, or students may remain at the Brandywine campus and finish one of the campus majors as a Schreyer Scholar. The honors courses at Brandywine are smaller in size and are open only to students in the Schreyer or Cooper programs.
