The Jane E. Cooper Campus Honors Program is a special opportunity available to academically talented students at the Brandywine campus. Entering freshmen who meet criteria such as high SAT scores, very good high school averages, or high scores on Penn State placement tests, are invited to become Cooper Scholars.

This program allows highly motivated students at this campus to participate in small, specially designed classes. At the end of the freshman and sophomore year, qualified students may be apply to become Cooper Scholars. Please view our collection of online videos to learn more about our program.


The Benefits

Cooper Honors students have the opportunity to:
* Have registration priority
* Have semester-long library loans
* Take special honors courses and trips arranged for honors scholars
* Work closely with the Coordinator of the Honors Program to develop a program especially suited to their interests
* Establish one-on-one contact with professors through independent study and undergraduate research
* Work closely with other Cooper and Schreyer Scholars from different disciplines in their honors courses
* Have honors courses noted on their transcript
* Receive a two-year honors certificate from the campus, or a four-year honors certificate, depending upon length of time in the program


Scholarships and Awards

Honors students in good standing will be invited each spring to apply for a variety of scholarship opportunities available on our campus.


Requirements

Cooper Honors Scholars must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.33 and accumulate at least 6 credits of honors course work each academic year.

Twenty-four credits of honors work must be completed before graduation. Of the 24 credits, a minimum of 12 credits must be in upper-division coursework (300- and 400-level courses). A senior capstone requirement is required.

All entering freshmen must enroll in ENGL 030 (Honors Freshman Composition) and L ST 100H (Information Search Strategies). Students in the second semester of their junior year must take the thesis preparation course L ST 301H (Information Research Methods and Systems). Students that complete honors option projects must present their work at the honors research Socratic Symposium each semester.

Cooper Scholars can earn a two-year honors certificate for successfully completing 12 credits of honors work and a four-year certificate for completing 24 credits of honors work and a senior capstone project.
