20) Children's Book Week

Led by Renee Lutz in the campus bookstore, the campus collected new and gently used books in conjunction with Children's Book Week. The books will be donated to local schools.

The "One Campus One Book" program continued with a lecture on "The Convenient Truth about Global Warming." David Legates, director of the Center for Climatic Research at the University of Delaware, and Delaware state climatologist, was the featured speaker. So far this year, the campus has hosted speakers who have discussed the potential harm global warming can do to the planet, and Legates offered a dissenting view on the impact of global warming.

The campus hosted a two-day blood drive at the end of October. Campus and community members not only gave blood, but gave "the gift of life."

In connection with Make A Difference Day, several faculty, staff, and students gathered together to cut coupons for a cause - the Overseas Coupon Program (one of the ongoing service projects). Lots of coupons were cut that are still being tallied - we truly made a difference in just one hour of cutting!

Col. William Flavin, U.S. Army (Retired), Professor at the U.S. Army War College, visited Dr. Stephen Cimbala's "Introduction to Comparative Politics" class on Tuesday, October 23. Col. Flavin led a discussion on post-conflict stability operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, in addition to related issues. He is a faculty member at the Army's peacekeeping institute at Carlisle and has a distinguished military career, including experience in special operations.
