February 2008 Archives

A group of energetic staff and students joined the Nittany Lion in providing dinner for the residents of the Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington, Delaware.  Residents were treated to a pasta dinner, while the children were able to play games and get their photo taken with the Lion.  The campus collected donations from the House Wish List and filled an overflowing wagon with donations.

30) National Make A Blanket Day

|
In celebration of Project Linus' National Make A Blanket Day, the campus challenged itself to create 40 blankets in 4 hours.  With donations coming in from the community and the sewing efforts of Diane Shorter, the campus made over 70 blankets!  All blankets will be used by the Chester/Delaware County chapter of Project Linus for children in area hospitals and the Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington, DE.

27) Bell Seminar - WHYY

|

Each spring semester, the Penn State Brandywine campus hosts the Clarence D. Bell Public Service Lecture Series, named in honor Senator Bell's memory, and to perpetuate his devotion to serving the population of Delaware County's Ninth District for more than four decades. The series, which promotes community activism and volunteerism, features speakers from organizations that make a difference in the community.

Our first speaker was Kerri Hanlon, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for WHYY. The audience was led through a discussion of shows on Philadelphia's public television and radio, upcoming specials, and the challenges public television faces.

The campus celebrated the American Heart Association's heart awareness day by putting away our blue-and-white to wear red. We also held a one-mile walk in the gym. It was an energized group of students, staff and faculty completing 14 laps to jump start American Heart Month.
