I've been expecting this movie for some time. It reminds me of Being John Markevich and Memento. Jim is great, Kate is great, the plot flows great too. The only problem is that it lacks the very tension and appears to be a little bit tame - just a little bit; it's still an extraodinary movie, one of the best I've ever seen, after all. I didn't like Jim Carrey before, for I somehow hated his over-reactive and bizarre antics in "Mask" or "Bruce Almighty". But needless to argue, this is Jim's best performance to date, and it has completely re-shaped his image in my mind. Joel, the truthful, realistic, three-dimensional character played by Jim, is the golden proof of his acting skills. I had read neither the plot nor the review before watching this movie. I was thrilled to discover what it was talking about and how that was presented when about 1/3 of the movie was played. I continued to be mentally charmed throughout the rest. And I hope when you read this post, you've already gone through the movie. Otherwise, I appolagize. But never mind, it's really worth viewing again, and again, and again... In
real life, there's no such thing as the "memory eraser" from
Men In Black - "flash, boom, erased". Nor would any "progressive
erasing procedure" be a pleasant experience. If you two still see
each other once in a while, how can you be sure that you won't fall
in love with the same person again, as the assistant, Mary, did in the
movie? As the plot line goes, "You can erase someone from your
mind. Getting them out of your heart is another story". |
