Multiplication Tables February 14, 2002
Grade 3 40 – 45 minutes
-Teacher Materials:

List of possible numbers to be called
during “Math Bingo.”
-Student Materials:
·
1 Bingo Card
·
20 Bingo Chips
·
Puzzle Sheet
·
Pencil
-Timing:
· Distribution of Bingo materials 1 min.
· Allow students to number cards 2 min.
Explanation of behavior expectations while playing Bingo 1 min.
· Explanation of rules 1 min.
· Play “Math Bingo” 20 min.
· Put Bingo materials away 2 min.
· Distribution of Puzzle 1 min.
· Explanation of Puzzle 1 min.
· Explanation of behavior expectations while working on puzzles 1 min.
· Time to work on puzzle 15 min.
-Organization
· The teaching assistant on this day will distribute Bingo cards and puzzle sheets.
· The teacher will distribute Bingo Chips.
· Students should not be playing with Bingo Chips in any way.
· Students will raise hands to communicate the answer to a problem.
· Students will work on the multiplication puzzle alone.
Beginning
the Lesson:
-Focus Event:
· Explain to students that they are going to practice their multiplication tables through a fun game and puzzle.
-Connection to prior knowledge:
· Students are currently working on multiplication tables.
· This activity allows the students to practice what they are working on.
Body of
the Lesson:
o The teacher will say a multiplication problem.
o Everyone will be quiet and raise his or her hand to tell an answer to a problem.
o The teacher will call on someone to tell the answer of that problem.
o If anyone has that number on his or her Bingo card, place a Bingo chip on the square containing that number.
o
This process will continue until someone has five Bingo chips in a
straight line on his or her card.

Play “Math Bingo”
·
Play as many games in the
twenty-minute time frame as possible.
·
After the twenty-minute time frame,
tell students to place their Bingo chips in one pile on the corner of their
desks.
·
Gather up all of the Bingo chips.
·
Ask teaching assistant on this day to
pass out multiplication puzzle worksheets.
·
Tell students that they are to work
on this page alone.
·
The students will answer the
multiplication problems at the bottom of the page.
·
They will then fill in the squares at
the top of the page that have those numbers.
·
After completing all of the problems
and filling in all of the squares, students will write what the puzzle is a
picture of at the bottom of the page.
·
Students will hand this page in when
they are finished.
·
If some students finish early, they
will read a book quietly until everyone has completed the assignment.
Ending the Lesson:
· Ask students what they liked about this lesson.
· Did the lesson help them practice multiplication facts?
Assessment:
·
Did the student raise his or her hand
to answer questions during “Math Bingo?”
·
Did the student not shout out
answers?
·
Did the students complete the puzzle
sheet?
·
Are the answers correct on the puzzle
sheet?
