It sounds much fancier than it is! A critique is just a chance for you to tell the world whether or not you liked the movie you saw. Like any other paper you write, you need to support your claim ("This was the most boring movie I’ve ever seen") with some facts ("The host himself fell asleep.")
Give a brief synopsis of the film (you can include more details in later paragraphs).
State whether or not you thought it was a good film
Support the claims you’ve made about the movie by providing details from the film itself.
Some things to consider:
- Audience: Did this film have a particular audience in Mind? If so, did it meet the needs of that audience? (For example, a children’s film needs to do different things to be "good" than an adult’s film needs to.)
- Effectiveness: Did the film have a particular goal in mind? Did it accomplish that goal? In other words, if this was an instructional video on how to train your pet parakeet to use the litter box, did it work?
- Entertainment:What good does a good film do if you can’t stay awake through it? Did the film hold your interest? Why? You might consider actors, music, arrangement of the scenes, etc.
Stay on track! Sometimes you will be asked to relate the material in the film to something you’ve learned in class or some experience in your own life. When you do so, be careful to keep the focus on the movie.
Summarize your thoughts on this film. Did it affect you in some way? Would you recommend it to other people?
