Housing Modifications and Instructions
Here are some pictures
of the new housing I ordered.
If you look carefully, you will notice a small problem
with the sizing of the silver painted rim of the screen.
It is about 30 pixels (of cell phone screen) too low on
the top portion of the faceplate. This was fixed using
a flat screwdriver and some carefull scraping. Also,
when a good product comes out, it deserves some
kind of mention. There is a clear clip holster made by
radioshack for the Samsung a600 that fits the modified
x426/x427/x427M flashing battery set-up perfectly.
Unlike the plastic cover cases that make pressing your
keys almost impossible and the other holsters that do
not fit the resized battery correctly, this one works.
It is also clear, so it reflects the color of the flashing.
This mod was then converted over to the new
X427M successfully.
Tools to have: Phillips No. 0 or B4 Mini
Screwdriver, Tweezers (or needle nose pliers), a sharp pin or a Mini Flat head
screwdriver (or other small solid rod),
Somewhere to store small screws and small pieces, and a firm piece of plastic
such as an old Credit/ATM card to help separate the seams (optional).
1. Remove the battery and Sim Card.
2. Using the needle or mini screwdriver, remove the rubber piece on the back of
the phone near the antenna to reveal the hidden screw.
3. With the No.0 Phillips, remove all five screws on the back of the phone. You
may need to use the tweezers at this point to remove the screws to put in a
safe place. Remember, they go.

4. Starting at the charger port, slide your thumbnail in the seam to help
separate it enough to slide the credit card in and work your way to the top on
both ends until the back piece comes off.
As you are working your way around, be careful in keeping track of the side
Up/Down Buttons and the headset port cover.
5. Once the back piece is off, you can separate the ribbon cable from the
circuit board at the top right near the headset port and lift the circuit board
out. The rubber piece of the microphone needs to be pushed in from the outside
to release the rest of the circuit board. Then the keypad can come out.
6. Next comes the hard part of separating the hinge piece from the bottom. Push
in the black plastic piece of the hinge rod on the left side to separate the
top and bottom pieces. This will require a little bit of pressure.
7. Once the rod is out, you can slowly let the ribbon cable go through the hole
and the two pieces will be apart.
8. Using the Sharp pin or the Mini Flathead screwdriver, remove the two gray
stickers near the hinge on the inside to reveal the two screws. (I put them on
the back of the battery as well)

9. Using the Mini No.0 Phillips, carefully remove the two screws and use the
tweezers or needle-nose to pull them out and in a safe place.
10. Using your thumbnail, slide it in between the seam near the hinge to slide
the credit card in to help separate the faceplate from the phone or continue to
use your thumbnail if you prefer. Work your way around both sides until you get
to the top area.
11. Then carefully separate the pieces to get the faceplate off.
12. Now you can lift the LCD Circuit board up and you will need to use the mini
flat head screwdriver to separate the speaker pieces from the housing that is
held in place by double-sided tape.
13. Next you can carefully pry out the magnet that lets the phone know if it is
open or closed. It must be removed and put in the new housing as well.

14. Save all black plastic, foam, and "wire-mesh" stickers and place
in same positions on new housing. The protect the wires and circuits from
hitting the housing

14. The spring-loaded piece must be pulled out and put into the other housing
also. It can be pushed out through the opposite side of the faceplate with a
small screwdriver.
15. That should be it and the assembly should be all done in reverse.
16. The antenna can be removed by simply pulling it up out of the housing, but
be careful not to pull in any other direction which could damage the housing.
Note: Most housings do not include screws,
stickers, rubber stoppers, and an antenna. Please remember to save these items
or your new housing won't have them.
