[447] Among the thousands of Huguenots who fled from France (French protestants) to save their lives were the Blanchards. It was originally spelled Blanchet.

[448] Thomas Blanchard is the first name we have with any certainty (The Blanchard Family by Jonathan Hunt). Thomas is believed to be the son of Pierre Jean Blanchard born about 1555, Calentine, Penins, France.

[449] Thomas had three wives. His first wife's name is unknown, his second wife Agnes Dent died on passage from London in 1639. Since we have no marraige dates, it is unknown whether Samuel (our ancestor) was the son of Thomas's first wife or of his second
wife Agnes.
