Bob Sanders          

 

 

Demond "Bob" Sanders was born in Erie, PA where he attended Cathedral Prep. In his four year career at Prep, he was named All-State twice: first team All-State in his senior year, and third team All-State as a junior. Bob continued his football career at Iowa under coach Kirk  Ferentz, where he was a four year starter for the Hawkeyes contributing with 348 career tackles among other impressive statistics. Bob received many honors and awards in his collegiate career. In his freshman year he was named honorable mention All-Big Ten. In 2001 during his second year at Iowa he was co- team MVP, first team All- Big Ten, he won the team hustle award for defense, The Bronco Nagurski national award, and was also named Big-Ten Defensive Player of the Week. As a junior he was again listed as first team All-Big Ten, and fourth team All-America to go along with another consecutive team hustle award for defense. In 2003 as Bob played in his final season wearing the black and gold, he was again named to the first team All- Big Ten, second team All-America by the Associated Press, Permanent Team Captain for defense, Team MVP, Coaches Appreciation Award, he accepted the Hayden Fry "Extra Heartbeat" Award, again was selected as the Big-Ten Defensive player of the week, and was also selected to participate in the Senior Bowl.
