Sports

Being involved in sports has been very influential in my life. They have taught me many lessons that will help me throughout the rest of my life.

Wrestling is one of the most intense sports around. I wrestled for two year while in high school. During my junior year in high school I was participated in the conference wrestling tournament. I was involved in a very exciting match that went into over time. I lost the match and my chance to go to the championship. This left me heartbroken, but I still had a chance for a medal. I felt I had worked hard during the season and could not just sit by without winning a medal. The next match brought success. I won a third place. Wrestling taught me to continue to work for success even after failure. My reward was more than a medal; it was the honor of perseverance.

Track and field is another intense sport. I ran track for my entire high school career. Sophomore year was one of my most difficult years. Other runners were better than me. I never took a first place that year. I was afraid at times to race, but I did anyway. I worked hard to increase my speed and reach my goal to break 60 seconds in the 400 meter dash. The sport taught me that facing your fears can lead to success.

Football is the most physical sport around. I played football my junior and senior year in high school. Everyone on the football team was stronger, faster, or more physical than I at the time. Many times I wanted to quit and be through with football, but I stuck with it. By my senior year, I was starting as an outside linebacker and on my way to being All-Conference academically. Football taught me continuing to work will lead to success.

Sports have enabled me to refine my talents, overcome my fears, and persevere during difficult times. This is why sports have been influential in my life.
