Leslie Leupp has directed the Metals Arts program in the School of Visual Arts at Penn State University since 1988. He has held teaching posts at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana; Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana; and Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas.

Mr. Leupp has an extensive exhibition record which includes both national and international venues. Most recently, his work was part of the national exhibition "Sculptural Concerns: Contemporary American Metalworking." This exhibition was curated and shown by the Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, Ohio and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The American Craft Museum in New York City hosted the exhibition as it traveled throughout the United States during the past two years. In 1992, Mr. Leupp's work was part of the "2nd Australia International Crafts Triennial" shown at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth Australia.

In her recent book, One of a Kind, American Art Jewelry Today, Susan Grant Lewin devotes a chapter to Mr. Leupp's work. She writes of his jewelry, "'Objects empower people,' says Leslie Leupp. Accordingly he produces dramatic objects that live up to this tenet, granting the wearer the power of choice and participation. Elaborately rigged and physically involving, Leupp's works transform the wearer into a user, increasing their active role in the artistic relationship." Kathleen Brown, artist, educator, and writer, reviewed an exhibition of metal work shown at the University of Akron for a recent issue of Metalsmith Magazine. In the review she states, "Leslie Leupp's recent series, Queer Objects, is some of his most compelling and most political work to date." This series of objects involved the exploration of social and political issues dealing with sexual orientation.

Mr. Leupp has received numerous awards, honors, and grants, including a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts Grant. He has been invited to lecture and present workshops on metal working techniques by universities and colleges throughout the United States. He is a member of the American Crafts Council and the Society of North American Goldsmiths.
