About the National Art Education Association

It is the mission of the National Art Education Association to advance art education through professional development, service, advancement of knowledge and leadership. Founded in 1947, NAEA currently has a membership of nearly 15,000 art educators from every level of instruction. Geographically, NAEA represents fifty states plus the District of Columbia, U.S. Possessions, most Canadian Provinces, U.S. military bases around the world, and twenty-five foreign countries. About the Eastern Region

The Eastern Region of the National Art Education Association includes the states of: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virgina, as well as Overseas Art Teachers; and in Canada the Providences of: Labrador, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island andQuebec.

There was an Eastern Region Leader's Meeting in Philadephia, PA in June of 1997. At that meeting, leaders from the Eastern Region State NAEA Organizations and Overseas identified issues and established initiatives related to the following goals:

Advance knowledge of the value of an art education
Build a system of effective communication in the Eastern Region
Improve communications within the NAEA Eastern Region
Identify issues related to State recuitment.

This NAEA Eastern Region web site is one format that will help achieve some of these goals by using the internet as a system of communications within our region. You can help by submitting suggestions and comments. We are especially interested in adding links to State Arts Organizations or State Arts Alliances. If you know of any such sites, please use the "send a message" buttons in the section entitled Links to Eastern Region Art Education Associations and Organizations.
