Linux provides an entirely new operating system for me to learn, therefore I require a resource bank to pick up on the basics as well as the more advanced concepts. Here is more of a forum where you can look up anything from the basics to the more advanced topics.
Being introduced to Linux provides an entirely new learning curve. I've chosen the Red Hat distribution for two reasons. First, Red Hat is the distribution used on campus. And second, they have a decent customer support staff compared to other distributions. Not to take away from the others, but as a novice I'd like that bit of help if need be.
Mark Sobell has written a couple of excellent books on using Linux and becoming familiar with some of the coding and usage of the system. I found his writings a perfect starting point to my self-education in Linux. His website provides descriptions of his books, scripts from examples, and a multitude of valuable links.
Vim is the program I use primarily to write my scripts, including this very webpage. It is based off the old Vi and was introduced to me during my class work in Meteorology. I used it somewhat, but now use it almost exclusively after researching the basic usage of the program. It runs on nearly all platforms.
Goodies is another site I use quite often to help with the basic coding and maintenance of my page. An excellent page for touching up on the basics and recently they've added some more advanced tips as well.
A great website to help with some of the more involved coding of a webpage. Posted dynamic script is easy to manipulate to your own uses rather than spend hours writing it yourself. Much of the dynamic script is taken from this page.
The Department of Meteorology at Penn State provides information on the Department, Faculty, the school in general, and recent news in the department.
Penn State's ePortfolio page is a good place to start if you are considering making your own webpage. The e-Portfolio class at Penn State is what kick started this webpage.
Avant Browser is a great browswer based off Internet Explorer with many good features. It's the only browser I use for Windows.
X-Treme Gear is a computer parts website. You can find computer parts or build your own on the site. My computer was custom built and purchased here with no major problems in four years.
