Employment History
STEM Mentor
I have recently become involved in the STEM Mentoring program at Penn State Behrend. The STEM fields of study are Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The STEM program offers a small group of incoming freshmen students in one of the STEM fields a scholarship, giving preference to underrepresented groups within the fields, such as women. Freshmen receiving the scholarship are required to participate in a peer mentoring program under an upperclassman that has been successful in one of the scientific fields.
As a STEM Mentor, I have had the opportunity to advise and work with a wonderful group of freshmen students. I especially enjoy being able to share my experiences with others in the hopes that any advice I may give can help them to more easily transition into college life. Experience has taught me that although faculty and staff can provide invaluable advice in helping a new student to become accustomed to their new lives in college and beyond, only peer support and advice is in touch enough with current trends that the majority of new students will actually pay attention to it and truly learn from it.
Penn State Erie, The Behrend College Lilley Library
During my two years, I have been employed at the Lilley Library on the Penn State Behrend campus. My freshman year, I was involved in the archives project whose goal was to prepare an exhibit for the campus' 60th anniversary. Some of my duties included writing transcripts of oral interviews and generally handling the compilation and organization of materials to be included in the exhibit. This year, I operate the circulation desk during my shift. I am responsible for keeping library materials organized as well as checking out and discharging library materials to patrons.
