Biography
My name is Danielle Bittner. Currently, I am finishing up my sophomore year at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. I am in the process of obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, as well as a minor in Biology, with graduation expected in May 2011. Upon graduation, I plan to pursue a Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field of scientific study.
One of the great loves of my life is the outdoors. I had originally planned on majoring in Geology and minoring in Chemistry at Penn State Erie, with the intent to switch to the University Park campus halfway through my undergraduate career under the 2+2 program. However, I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere here in Erie; the small, yet beautiful, campus, lasting friendships, and easy-to-approach faculty are what define the Erie campus. The opportunity to become involved in undergraduate research with faculty is also a highlight of the campus that is often not seen at other colleges or even at University Park. Because of this, I decided to switch my major to Chemistry in order to remain at Behrend, and I have not regretted a moment of it.
Although I have not yet chosen a particular area of chemistry to eventually obtain employment in, with the next two years of undergraduate research ahead of me I hope to narrow down my options and eventually choose a field of study that I absolutely love. Because of my interests in geology and biology as well as chemistry, I believe that a field of study within the area of the natural sciences, with its interdisciplinary approach, will suit me the best. I would particularly enjoy employment that would allow for travel and field work as well as laboratory research.
