• Reflexivity (self-consciousness) - The work's ability to see itself as a work.
• Parody and Irony - Criticism using entertaining and/or outrageous acts.
• Rejection of the separation of high/low culture -  No high art.  No pop culture.
• Fragmentation, Randomness - Unpredictableness in writings or views.

     One of the most important concepts in postmodernism is the criticism of modernistic concepts.  To this end, the four facets we've discussed are used in postmodern works to comment on the ideas presented in modern pieces.  Keep in mind that these are not the only strategies used in postmodern theory, but they do provide a basic understanding of the purpose of postmodernism.
