UFOs in Ancient Egyptby Sean Wolinsky
Sightings of unidentified flying objects have been the subject of much debate over human history. Evidence of possible alien visitors reaches back to ancient civilizations around the globe. One of the societies which experienced encounters with a third kind is located in northern Africa and has a history as rich as the fertile Nile River beds. Ancient Egypt has a well-documented history, with numerous discrepancies many have attributed to alien visits. The upcoming sections will detail the evidence found by archeologists and historians on the possibility of the so-called 'ancient astronauts'. A potential alien pharaoh, UFO sightings in hieroglyphics and the curious construction of the pyramids will lead to a culmination of myth and truth. Can we trust the historical records of ancient Egyptians, or are we simply misreading their true messages.
In order to begin our investigation into the history of alien encounters in Egypt, we will start by examining a pharaoh with possible extraterrestrial genes. Is it conceivable that one of the most powerful individuals in Egypt came from another planet? A thorough analysis of his past and anatomy may shed light on this controversial topic.
During the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt, Akhenaten served as a Pharaoh for 17 years. Akhenaten was most known for transitioning Egypt into monotheism religion in lieu of the traditional polytheism. He promoted the worship of Aten, a solar deity with a higher 'status' compared to the gods. The first curiosity regarding Akhenaten's ruling arises after his death in 1335 BC. His religious conversion was quickly forgotten and the traditional religious practices were restored. Future Pharaohs tried to erase any evidence of Akhenaten's rule in many different ways. They destroyed his temples and monuments, making his existence unknown to historians until the 19th century.
In addition to the odd religious transformation and 'cover-up' by subsequent rulers, Akhenaten's physical appearance has perplexed many historians. Egyptian artwork from his ruling depicted him with a female appearance with a peculiar head shape. With an elongated skull, long neck, large thighs and long fingers, many point to an alien influence. Could his abnormalities be the result of alien experiments? The most striking piece of evidence is the profile of his skull. Shown in the picture below, a strong similarity to modern alien interpretations is prominent. To this day, no one is quite sure the cause of Akhenaten's death.
Ancient Aliens in Writing
Some of the most powerful evidence of ancient UFO sightings in Egypt comes from historical records written in hieroglyphics. The most famous accounts of UFOs in the country come from the Tulli Papyrus. This document was discovered by Alberto Tulli in an antique shop in Cairo, Egypt in 1933. The following is a photograph of the document with a translation given by Prince Boris de Rachewiltz.
"In the year 22, in the third month of winter, in the sixth hour of the day, the scribes of the House of Life noticed a circle of fire that was coming from the sky [...] From the mouth it emitted a foul breath. It had no head. Its body was one rod long and one rod wide. It had no voice. And from that the hearts of the scribes became confused and they threw themselves down on their bellies [...] then they reported the thing to the Pharaoh [...] His Majesty ordered [...] has been examined [...] and he was meditating on what had happened, that it was recorded in the scrolls of the House of the Life. Now after some days had passed, these things became more and more numerous in the skies. Their splendor exceeded that of the sun and extended to the limits of the four angles of the sky [...] High and wide in the sky was the position from which these fire circles came and went. The army of the Pharaoh looked on with him in their midst. It was after supper. Then these fire circles ascended higher into the sky and they headed toward the south. Fish and birds then fell from the sky. A marvel never before known since the foundation of their land [...] And Pharaoh caused incense to be brought to make peace with Earth [...] and what happened was ordered to be written in the Annals of the House of Life so that it be remembered for all time forward."
In addition to the findings in the Tulli Papyrus, other strange hieroglyphics were found in the Temple of Osiris. These strange symbols depict technologically advanced transportation. From a helicopter to a submarine and even a flying saucer, these glyphs provide more proof of the possibility of alien encounters.
A large part of Egyptian culture is that of the Pyramids of Giza. These impressive monolithic structures tower over the vast desert landscape and hold the tombs of Egyptian royalty. Their existence, however, begs the question of how a society without modern construction equipment could create such buildings. Each stone used in the structure weighted anywhere from 1-20 tons, requiring remarkable engineering feats for the time. Could the creation of the pyramids be the result of ancient alien intervention?
Dr. Ala Shaheen, a member of the Archaeology Department at Cairo University skirted the issue during a Q&A session, and caused numerous theorists to renew the ancient alien buzz. When asked whether the Pyramids of Giza contained alien technology (even possibly a UFO within), Dr. Shaheen replied, "I cannot confirm or deny this, but there is something inside the pyramid that is 'not of this world.'"
Myth vs. Proof Conclusion
Much to the dismay of the ancient alien believers, much of the evidence presented thus far can be explained. The bizarre appearance of Akhenaten, with an elongated skull, long neck and thin arms/fingers is attributed to a genetic disorder. It is suggested that the Pharaoh suffered from Marfan's Syndrome. People with the syndrome tend to be tall with long limbs and fingers. This diagnosis casts a doubtful lens on his possible 'alien' encounters.
The seemingly damming evidence from the Tulli Papyrus is also easy to dismiss. It turns out that the original papyrus was too expensive to purchase so Tulli copied with. Upon this copying, many gaps in the story were left out. Sources say that the original papyrus could have also been a fake, duping historians into believing the 'Fire Circles' storyline.
The construction of the Pyramids of Giza has caused much debate over the years, but recent studies into the monuments have unearthed a possible explanation. A ramp system was discovered within the pyramids which explain how mere humans could bring the massive stones to the top. While not proven, this is the best explanation of the most famous structures on the Egyptian horizon.
While it is exciting to think that 'ancient astronauts' came to the African country in the past, the condemning evidence is not present. Historical records and accounts are not legitimist and possible explanations of theorists' proof can be found. In the end, the myths of UFO and alien encounters in Egypt are just as realistic as the curse of the pharaohs.
