Here's a collection of photos from "Expedition to Antarctica," a journey sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association. The trip, from Jan. 24 to Feb. 6, 2002, began with two and a half days in Buenos Aires, Argentina, followed by a flight to Ushuaia, Argentina, at the southern tip of South America. There, passengers boarded the cruise ship Marco Polo and set off across the Drake Passage for eight days in the Antarctic Peninsula. You'll see references to several different settings in the Antarctic Peninsula, including Deception Island, the Lemaire Channel, Port Lockroy, Paradise Harbor, and Half Moon Island. (Deception Island and Half Moon Island are part of the South Shetland Islands.) We then cruised back across the Drake Passage and past Cape Horn to Ushuaia, where we spent another day sightseeing before heading home.
