Me and My Research
About Me
My name is Tim Frazier and I am a ABD Doctoral Candidate researching natural hazards and climate change in the department of geography at The Pennsylvania State University. I reside in 320c EES where I put in the typical hours associated with being a slave to academia. The exception to my academic dedication is on college football Saturday's where no games are missed. On game days I wear red, orange, or Penn State blue for the three teams for which I cheer. I am from Arkansas (GO Hogs), I completed my undergrad at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and the Penn State blue should be obvious.
Research
My research interests in the past have focused on nature-society interaction specifically transportation, evacuation and subdivision
morphology, reflected in my masters thesis titled "No Way Out: Assessing Evacuation Potential of Subdivisions Along the South Carolina Coast."
I am currently in the fourth and final year of my Ph.D. program working as a research assistant in the Center for Integrated Regional Assessment (CIRA) at Penn State under the supervision of Dr. Brent Yarnal. I am working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA) and United States Geological Survey (USGS) to examine ways of increasing community resilience to future hurricane storm surge through a collaborative decision support system in Sarasota, Florida. I plan to defend my dissertation in early spring of 2009 and graduate in May 2009.
