2010 summer undergraduate research

My experience at the Hershey Medical Center has been very enlightening and informative. I was able to gain hands-on experience in different areas of the lab, such as: cell culturing, electroporation, etc. My time spent here has further motivated and inspired my pursuits of a career in the field of science.

Working in the Zebrafish lab under Dr. Keith Cheng at Hershey Medical Center was a great experience. I learned more about zebrafish and mutations overall. I have learned about new things such as morpholinos, Tol 2 and heavy-metal binding proteins. I have learned the role that morpholinos play in research involving zebrafish. I have also learned how to breed zebrafish. Another interesting aspects of this experience was observing the histology of several mutant zebrafish and being able to observe mutant phenotypes under the microscope. This has been a wonderful experience in the field of genetics and it is something that I will forever cherish!
