Thefollowing evidence supports my philosophy that children learn best when they are actively engaged in the process of learning. These are pictures from my sixth grade class as they prepared and raced their Mimi boats. These boats were constructed to certain specifications and then students raced to see who could attain the best time. Because the children (and teachers) were actively involved, we experienced learning for understanding.

A steady stream of air controls the speed!

The students encourage their classmate.
