Charles Bridge/11guyandhalo.jpgPrevious | Home | NextPrague is full of monuments to people named Jan. This Jan (Jan Nepomucky, or John of Nepomuk) was the confessor to the queen, and when the king asked him to say what exactly the queen had confessed to doing, Jan refused. The king was not pleased, and had Jan thrown off the bridge. Someone who protects your secrets, even if it means death? That's big. In addition to this statue on the bridge, there's also an elaborate silver tomb for Jan in St. Vitus Cathedral. |
