The Jordan Center show was awesome especially
since I had seats in the fifth row. I had two friends (Carole
Goetzelmann and Kathy Hobbs) from the Weird Al newsgroup visiting
and we had a blast. If you've never seen his show, you need to. Al
will be back out on the road in the Spring. He is so full of energy
and very entertaining. I know that I had a huge smile plastered
on my face the entire time.
The best part of the night was when I got to go back stage. They herded about 80 of us like cows back to a meet and greet room. It was so hot back there and we all stood around waiting for the weird one to arrive. While headed back to the "Green" room I finally met Tera Doty (from AMWA newsgroup fame) which was a pleasant surprise. Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz came into the room first. Then Al arrived and was seated at a table at the front of the room. Each member of the band was back with us which was a special treat. Anyhow, we waited until last to chat with Al so we'd have more time with him. I asked Al to sign a few pictures for me and my nephew and then asked him if I could have my picture taken with him. Of course he obliged like he always does with his fans. I did ask him though if he'd stand up since I'm tall and he chuckled and said "sure." I knew I shouldn't have worn heels and I was taller than him, but who cares. Then Carole, Kathy and I went back to my place for our slumber party. We had a such a great time. You should have been there.
Now it's Saturday and I'm off to yet another Weird Al concert in Camden, NJ with my friend Rich. This place is the pit of the earth. Camden was so desolate and the people who we did see were scarey. The show was once again amazing. It's like watching a rerun. You see something new each time you see it.
After the show it was back to the meet and greet room. It wasn't five minutes before Al showed up. Bermuda was there too, but none of the other band members came into the room while I was there. The security at the E Center was more strict than at the Jordan Center. After you talked to Al you had to leave so we tried to wait until the end of the line. I was next in line and the guy in front of me was about three feet away. He stepped to the side to leave and Al looked at me and said "Hi Sue." I was thrilled that he remembered my name since he met over 100 people the night before. We chatted for a few minutes and I got a few more things signed and got more pictures taken with Al. His hand was resting on my neck and thank God the flash didn't go off on my camera (Tera did you do this on purpose?) because I got to stay there for a few more seconds until the flash warmed up. ;-) Thanks Tera for taking the pictures. I was going to leave since a security guy was standing right beside us but for some reason he didn't make me leave. Maybe it was because Al called me by name...who knows?? So, I made myself at home in a chair and sat and took more pictures of Al. It was 11:30 and we thought we should get going so we left. I didn't want to though. On the way out, Bermuda said "Sue it was great to meet you" and he gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. What an awesome man!!! What an awsome weekend. I'm coming down off of my Al high and it's like going through withdrawl. Thank God I have tapes of him to watch. :-)
Special thanks goes out to my great friend, Brenda Bixler, for taking the backstage pictures at the Jordan center. She's not an Al fan but she did enjoy the show. Special thanks also go to Tera Doty who took the pics in Camden. Tera has a great web site so stop by and check it out.
