The Moshannon Branch and its tributaries served as the main feeder of coal to the PRR yard at Osceola. Even after Penn Central power and crews began working from Clearfield, PC's Moshannon Secondary remained an important rail outlet for much of the area's coal. These are scenes of trains that originated at Clearfield. Clockwise from left, in July 1973 empty hoppers pause at Coal Run Jct. near Osceola so that the brakeman can flag the Pa. Rt. 53 crossing; in March 1973, a four-car train enroute to Smoke Run and beyond passes through the cut in Ramey at the spot where the Pittsburgh & Susquehanna RR once bridged the PRR; and a local switches the Flango Bros. Coal Co. tipple at Beccaria, March 1975. Coal heading for Clearfield used the north end of the Clearfield secondary to Wallaceton, then ex-NYC (Beech Creek) trackage for the remainder of the trip.
