Clearfield was the hub of PC's central Pennsylvania coal operations. The railroad transported as much as 20 million tons of bituminous down the WBV Branch in peak years. Left, a U25B and GP9B (ex NYC and PRR, appropriately enough) lead a string of empty hoppers into the yard off the WBV in March 1969. The West Branch of the Susquehanna River parallels the track.

The photo at left was taken from the same spot as above, only in the other direction, and shows a loaded train leaving the yard, heading downriver in April 1970. The track at far left in the picture leads to the original Beech Creek line. At left below, in January 1973, a loaded train from the Cherry Tree Branch arrives at the west end of the yard on B&O trackage. PC trains between Clearfield and Cherry Tree had rights over the B&O's C&M Branch between CB Jct. and Clearfield Yard.
