Alco-built locomotives were common visitors to the Clearfield area, as recalled in these scenes from 1969. Left, a loaded train headed by a C430 passes WB (a train order office closed in the early 1960s) as it leaves the east end of the yard and heads downriver to Keating. Lower left, the pit track hosts at least seven units, including an ex-NYC DL721, on a hazy morning. Below, first- generation Alcos such as this RS3 disappeared quickly from the Clearfield area after the start-up of Penn Central. Eventually PC settled on EMD GP38's as the backbone of its Clearfield-based motive power, and the Alco's were assigned duties elsewhere.
