River Hill Coal Co.'s Page 728 stripped near Pottersdale. The top photo shows it in October 1969 with a remarkably short boom, basically the undamaged portion following a collapse of the full boom. A short boom meant a reduced radius for dumping overburden, which in turn restricted the depth of the cut. Below, in April 1970, a completely new, longer boom and a boom gantry have been installed. Possibly the second gantry is new also, since it appears to be finished with the same primer-like paint as the boom.
