At left, Elliot Coal Mining Co.'s Page 725, swinging a 10 cu.-yd. bucket, strips a hilltop at Coal Run, between Osceola Mills and Houtzdale, in 1971. The dragline dumps overburden to fill in an adjacent cut, as the dozer helps to level the working area. Elliot purchased the 725 new in 1960, although the boom is a 1969 replacement, following a crash of the original. Note the lack of a boom-mounted gantry. According to Keith Haddock's splendid book, Extreme Mining Machines, Page sold only only ten Model 725's worldwide. In 1972, Elliot sold this machine to another coal company, which repainted it and put it to work nearby.
Below, an overall view of the Coal Run site in December 1969. The wheel loader, lower left, sits on the top coal seam, the drill truck sits on a lower seam, and the Page is uncovering a third, much deeper seam. The houses of Osceola Mills are faintly visible in the upper right corner. Osceola-based Elliot also operated a Page 721 and a Page 728.
