R. S. Carlin's electrically powered Marion 7400 works on the hill at Keewaydin in 1969. This dragline was reported to be among the earliest production models, which featured a riveted rather than welded structure. The 7400 was Marion's most popular walking dragline; nearly 100 were built between 1940 and 1974 They swung a bucket in the 9-14 cu.yd. range, comparable to a Page 728, and were available in both diesel and electric versions. Note the operator's cab is mounted on the left side of the house. Page located it on the right. |

I've featured this Marion on a Page site because R. S. Carlin owned both makes. My recollection is that among coal companies owning Pages circa 1970, Carlin was the only one that simultaneously operated a walking dragline from another manufacturer as well. Although ownership passed to Sky Haven Coal Co., this 7400 continued to mine coal in the Keewaydin area until 2003, when it was cut up for scrap.
