The Prettyman Manor In Bacton, England

    Prettyman
The Prettyman Manor, known as the "Manor House," is located in Bacton, England in the county of Suffolk. The house was built in 1714 and stands in three acres of gardens and orchard. The family coat of arms is visible above the second floor inside a gable on the roof. The "Manor House" is presently leased to the Manor House Christians Trust by the Prettyman family, and is used as a home for 16 elderly Christians. This occurred due to the heavy death duties imposed on property owners in England. The inside of "Manor House" has been preserved with all of the original carved woodwork which in some areas has been covered in order to maintain it so that the family may return at some later date.

Milman E. Prettyman, oldest son of James and Ida, was an avid geneologist. His papers and photos are the foundation for this web site. Some material also comes from "The Prettyman Family In England and America," a book written by Reverend Edgar Cannon Prettyman tracing the history of the Prettyman family from 1361 to 1968 in England and America.
