Ron Pavlechko
(Pav-LECH-ko) has been in his present position as Director of Athletics for the State
College Area School District for eight years.
He is in charge of directing 44 PIAA-affiliated sports teams as well as elementary and secondary intramurals.
Most recently he taught English in the State College Area High School's Center for Applied Academics and Technologies and was the head Football Coach for 19 years.
During this time the Little Lion varsity football teams recorded some notable achievements.
In 1984, Ron was selected as the head coach of the West team for the Pennsylvania Big 33 Game held in Johnstown. In 1987 and 1990 he was an assistant coach for the North team in the Uni-Mart Football Classic game (now the Lezzer Lumber Classic).
In 1990 The Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Association recognized Ron for coaching 100 victories, and in 1999 the Central Pennsylvania Football Coaches Association inducted him into their Hall of Fame.
Ron previously served as an English teacher and assistant football coach, responsible for the offensive line, at SCAHS from 1971 through 1976. During this time State College won 36 straight games and was declared the 1973 state champion. He was chosen as an assistant coach for the 1973 Pennsylvania Big 33 team.
Ron played football at Penn State from 1967 through 1970, lettering as an offensive lineman. He was a member of Joe Paterno's second recruiting class and played in two Orange Bowls.
A graduate of Austintown-Fitch High School in Youngstown, Ohio, Ron played in the 1967 Ohio All-Star football game.
He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Football Foundation/College Hall of Fame and served as president in 1999-2000. In addition, he is secretary-treasurer of the Mid-State Boys' Volleyball League and the Central State Soccer Conference.
Ron and his wife, Barb, married for 37 years, have two married sons, Tim and Aaron.
