Huntingdon, Jan. 11, 2001 --
State College came within three points and one 3-point field goal of setting new records in its 100-23 win at Huntingdon.
The 100 points is the second highest point total all-time under coach Bethany Irwin. Her Lady Little Lions scored 102 points last season in a game with Dubois.
The team's 11 treys in the game also was the second highest in Irwin's career just behind the 12 made in 1995 against Lancaster Catholic and against Dubois a year ago.
Senior scoring leader Katie Glusko, who played in the first and third quarters only, provided her team's first 11 points of the contest and finished with a game-high 27.
Nicole Scipone (18 points), Sarah O'Shea (13 points) and Liz Gabrielle (10 points) all were part of the impressive bench scoring. "Our bench gave us 52 points," Irwin said.
State College was hot from the outside taking advantage of Huntingdon defenders. "They sat in a two-three (zone) the entire time and you can't leave a nice shooting team wide open," Irwin said. "You can't ask the kids not to shoot. I don't know what we shot but it was pretty good."
Irwin said she did make some adjustments in the second half after her team led 43-10 at intermission. "We tried to mix up some kids so they got equal time."
Huntingdon came into the game with just one win but showed effort throughout the contest. "I think they had some good kids on their team," Irwin said. "No. 20 (5-11 junior Rejane Frederick) could rebound very well."
The Lions have little time to celebrate playing their next game in less than 24 hours with Lower Dauphin. "It should be a good game. They have a new coach and you don't know what he's put in."
State College is now 10-2, 3-0 in the Mountain League. Huntingdon's overall record is 1-13, 0-8 in the league.
