Boclair
Joins CoSIDA Officer Rotation
Will Become
President in 2003
Tammy
Boclair, assistant media relations director at Vanderbilt
since
1996, has been elected Third Vice-President of the
College Sports Information
Directors of America, putting her in line for the
presidency of the national
organization.
In the academic year 2003-2004, Boclair will
assume the presidency of
the 2,000-member organization of college
publicists.
She will become only
the second woman in the group's history to become
president. Ironically,
the first was also a Vanderbilt representative.
June Stewart, who retired
from Vanderbilt, was CoSIDA's President in 1991.
As Third Vice President this
year, Boclair will
be responsible for the comprehensive awards
program. Each year as she
advances to the presidency, she will assume new
duties. The election marked
a tremendous month for Boclair.
The 1999-2000 Vanderbilt women's basketball media
guide, produced by
Boclair and former assistant media relations
director Kristi Strang, was
named "Best in the Nation" by two organizations
earlier in June. The guide
was voted "Best in the Nation" by an independent
collection of judges
representing the sports and publication design
worlds as well as the Printing
Industry Association of the South. It was the first
national championship
athletic publication for Vanderbilt.
Boclair has primarily served Vanderbilt as its
women's basketball media
contact since coming to Nashville four years ago
from Dallas.
She had
previously been Associate Commissioner of the
Southland Conference and
had spent eight years in sports information
capacities at LSU and Stephen
F. Austin, her alma mater.
Boclair has served as a
member of the NCAA
Media Coordination Committee for the Women's
Basketball Final Four since
1992. In that capacity she supervises credential
distribution, helps coordinate
press conferences and maintains working press
facilities throughout the
championship weekend.
She also was the media
relations coordinator of
the 1998 NCAA Mideast Regional.
"We are tremendously proud of Tammy and how
brilliantly she represents
Vanderbilt," says Vanderbilt Associate Athletic
Director Rod Williamson.
"Not only does she do an outstanding job with the
Commodore program day
in and day out, she puts the national spotlight on
our institution.
"Our
department vision statement, created under the
leadership of Todd Turner,
talks about Vanderbilt's desired role as a national
leader in athletics
and Tammy is helping show the way."
Tammy is married to David Boclair, who regularly
covers the Tennessee
Titans and Nashville Predators after having been a
sports editor in Texas.
