Lady Little Lions Sweep Central Mountain; Glusko Scores School Record 43 Points; State College Clinches Mountain League Title

Mill Hall, Pa., Feb. 5, 2002 -- Central Mountain brings out the best in State College.

Last Month's 70-48 victory over the visiting Lady Wildcats gave coach Bethany Irwin her 150th victory at the school.

In the 69-50 win in the rematch, senior Katie Glusko scored a school-record 43 points helping her team clinch the Mountain League Championship.

The Lady Little Lions, 17-2 and ranked No. 5 in this week's state poll, also extended their winning streak to 12 games.

Central Mountain, now 13-6 overall, had a 9-0 record at home and looked capable of extending that streak in the first quarter which ended with the Wildcats ahead 17-11. Glusko scored all of her team's points in the opening stanza.

State College pulled ahead 27-25 by halftime with Glusko adding 10 more points to her already impressive total.

State College got major help from Glusko after intermission. The game was tied at 27, 29 and 31 before Glusko had a run scoring seven of the Lions' next 10 points and assisting on two more baskets to help State College build a 45-41 lead as the teams began the final period.

Glusko then went on a tear opening the fourth quarter by scoring the first 15 points for the Lions which staked them to a 60-46 advantage with 3:31 remaining.

Central Mountain was never able to close the gap. Wildcat scoring leader Lindsey Hollobaugh scored 16 points but had none in the second quarter and only two in the final quarter.

Glusko's 43 points included six treys which matches the school record set by Rachel Onkotz.

State College hosts Lewistown on Saturday. Central Mountain is at Huntingdon on Friday.
