State College, Pa., Dec. 18, 2002 --
State College's fourth straight win wasn't pretty but it was decisive as the Lady Little Lions outscored visiting North Schuylkill 74-38 and extended their home court win streak to 15 games.
I'm pleased with the score," State College coach Bethany Irwin said. "I still think we were a little sloppy at times."
Junior Katlyn Stupar had a breakout game with a team-leading 15 points. It was Stupar's folo shot and a pretty layup set up by a Suzy Carlson's assist that broke a 5-5 tie in the early minutes. State ran off 15 straight points and never looked back holding a 22-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
"I'm pleased with Katlyn," Irwin said. "We played well and we played defense well. I'm still working on that consistency so that when a sub goes in we have to keep that same mentality and aggressiveness. We don't want the game to drop."
State College led 40-13 by halftime and the first eight points of the period came from the bench. Carly Onkotz had two and Jessie Serabin dropped in two straight threes.
Starters Nicole Scipione, Carlson, Liz Gabrielle and Sarah O'Shea took over in the third quarter staking State College to a 63-23 advantage.
Monica Fogelsanger finished off the fourth quarter by scoring the last five points of the game for the Lions.
Scipione and O'Shea, who each had career scoring games Monday at Hollidaysburg, both scored 12 points. O'Shea's points came on four treys adding to the four she scored on Monday.
North Schuylkill's leading scorer was Christina Regent with 10 points. Kim Rarick and reserve Beth Mensinger both had nine points. The Spartans are now 2-7.
State College, 4-0, is on the road Friday night for a makeup game at Indiana. The contest was postponed due to weather conditions from Dec. 5.
The State College junior varsity won its 63rd in a row with a 44-27 win over North Schuylkill's JV. Serafin was the high scorer with 12 points.
