Indiana, Pa., Dec. 20, 2002 --
For the first time this season, coach Bethany Irwin counted points from every player on her roster as the Lady Little Lions won at Indiana 86-37.
Balanced scoring from State College produced the fifth win of the season and the current Lady Little Lions moved the program closer to the 500 victory milestone.
State College girls' basketball has a 498-238 record in its 37th season.
"I'm just really pleased with the girls,' coach Bethany Irwin said. "Everybody contributed as all 11 players got on the board."
Seniors Nicole Scipione and Suzy Carlson were the go-to players early finishing with 22 and 17 points, respectively.
Junior starter Katlyn Stupar had 12 points, her second straight double figure game following Wednesday's double-double (15 points, 12 rebounds) against North Schuylkill.
Junior reserve Monika Fogelsanger scored 10 points and junior Jessie Serafin also came off the bench to score nine points.
Irwin's 2002 team advanced to the state semifinals with four seniors in the starting lineup including the school's all-time leading scorer. Losing that much offensive punch could have presented a challenge.
That was something Irwin didn't worry about. "I knew I could go at least six or seven people deep who know how to score and they all have different ways to score," she said.
State jumped out to an early six-point lead and outscored the Indians 21-6 in the first quarter with all five Lion starters already in the scorebook.
The Lions got seven straight points from the bench to open the second quarter on the way to a 43-17 lead at halftime.
Indiana took its only free throws of the game in the fourth quarter and produced 13 of its 37 points but State College maintained its level of production with Stupar pouring in eight of her 12 points.
Indiana (1-8) had co-scoring leaders in Lacy Silvas and Rachel Stewart, each with nine points.
The Lady Little Lions are at home Monday with Woodland Hills.
The State College junior varsity also won its fifth straight game with a 78-36 victory over Indiana's JV and now has won 64 in a row. Serafin was the high scorer with 19 points. Kelly Ashcraft tallied 16 points.
