Lions Defeat Visiting Huntingdon 70-33
State College Nets 11 Threes in 9th Win

State College, Pa., Jan. 10, 2003 --

State College used 11 three-point field goals from five different players to defeat visiting Huntingdon 70-33.

The eighth-ranked Lady Little Lions improved to 9-1 and must make a quick turnaround as they are at Pottsville tomorrow night.

The end result with Huntingdon was never in doubt as the Lions opened with a 16-0 run that featured three-treys from Suzy Carlson and single bombs from Nicole Scipione and Sarah O'Shea. The lead was 21-2 at the end of the first quarter.

State College's bench took over in the second quarter building a lead of 36-10 by halftime. The Lions made just one trip to the foul line in the first half.

The 3-point game returned in the third period thanks to Liz Gabrielle, Carlson and O'Shea who helped extend the lead to 56-22.

The Lions came close to the game record for threes when Jessie Serafin and O'Shea added two more to bring the game total from 3-point range to 11. That was one shy of the school record during coach Bethany Irwin's 10 years with the program. Her 1995 team had 12 against Lancaster Mennonite and the 1996 squad matched that number against Dubois in 1996.

Carlson was the Lions' leading scorer with 14 points followed by Scipione and O'Shea with 10 points. Eleven players contributed to the offense.

Huntingdon picked up its ninth loss against four wins. The scoring leaders for the Cats were Linsey Norris and Olivia Hallahan who each scored eight points.
