Activities
I am a volunteer EMT with Centre LifeLink EMS, Inc. in the community of State College PA where I am an Officer-in-Charge and Field Training Officer.  Besides being an EMT, I am also an instructor and have helped teach EMT courses and continuing education programs from time to time.  While at Penn State I organized the Emergency Medical Services Association, a student organization, in 1993, and the EMS Alumni Interest Group in 1999.  I have also served on the board of directors of the National Collegiate EMS Foundation since the Board's inception in 1995.

I am a Boy Scout volunteer currently registered as Advisor of Venture Crew 325 in State College,   as member of the Juniata Valley Council Executive Board, and with the Mount Nittany District as Unit Commissioner.  In 2001 & 2005 I volunteered for the Health and Safety Staff at the National Jamboree.  From 1989 to 1991 I was an administrative director for the Resica Falls Scout Reservation. It is a 4,000 acre camp in the Poconos now owned by the Cradle of Liberty Council in the Philadelphia area.  Many years ago I served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 1 in Clearfield PA, and worked three years on the staff of the local camp there, Camp Mountain Run of the Bucktail Council. In this Council I became a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow.

Other community organizations that I have belonged to include the American Legion where I was the Pleasant Gap PA Post 867 Commander for 1996-97 and again in 2001-02.  I am a member of State College Lodge 700 of the Free & Accepted Masons, Bellefonte Chapter 211 of the Royal Arch Masons, Nittany Council 57 of the Royal & Select Masons, Constans Commandery 33 in Bellefonte PA of the Knights Templar, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 129 in Centre County PA.  I am a former member of Mt. Joy Grange 584 and the Pennsylvania State Grange

I am a life member of the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Company Number 1 where I served as an active volunteer with the ambulance and rescue service from 1982 to 1984.

In other youth group volunteer activities I served as the Chapter Advisor from 1990 to 1995 of the Brotherhood Chapter, Order of DeMolay, which I helped to originally found in 1983 in State College PA.  I also served as an advisor in Clearfield Chapter and as advisor of the Pennsylvania State Officer Corps for several years.

In 1992 I was nominated by the Republican Party in the primary election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.  Although I did not defeat the incumbent in the General Election that year, I have volunteered in many other campaigns.  Since then I have served as a precinct chair in the local municipality.
