Tying Instructions

1.

2.

Select proper hook, remove barb, and secure in vise.

Attach thread 25% behind eye of hook. Wind back to bend of hook.

3. Attach tail fibers with a pinch tie. Tail length should be equal to or slightly longer than hook shank. Use enough stiff fibers to support the fly.
4. Dub fur on thread and/or wind body material forward 66% of hook shank. Taper body from tail to head.
5. Select rooster hackle 1½ to almost 2x hook gap. Tie in the two rooster hackles separately by stem, dull side away from the hook. Tie 1st hackle leaving a small amount of stem exposed; tie 2nd hackle with fibers tight to hook. Wrap thread forward, almost to the eye of the hook. Let bobbin hang.
6. Wind 1st hackle forward, one wrap tight in front of the last; leave adequate room at the eye to build up thread for a head. Preen fibers to release any trapped barbs and tie off with two wraps of thread. Wind 2nd hackle over and through 1st hackle, wiggle hackle as you wrap to avoid trapping; tie off opposite of where 1st hackle ended. Tie off, finish head and whip finish.
