Coach Kenny Macklin

 

The 1998-99 season finds Macklin beginning his seventh season at Penn State Altoona. His 1997-98 squad finished with the best record in the school's history with a 23-6 mark. During he 97-98 campaign, Kenny was selected by his peers as the Coach of the Year in the Commonwealth College Campus Athletic Conference and Co-Coach of the Year in the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference.

Coach Macklin will lead his troops into their second year of Division III play. Macklin states that he is excited about the transition his team is about to make with playing other four-year institutions. "Building a program from the ground up is an exciting and challenging proposition."

Kenny Macklin is from East Orange, New Jersey and a graduate of Florida State University. At FSU, Kenny was the starting point guard for a nationally ranked basketball team that went 25-3. That FSU team featured NBA hall of famer Dave Cowens of the Boston Celtics, and former coach the NBA Charlotte Hornets.

After several attempts at breaking into the NBA with teams like the Boston Celtics and New Jersey Nets, Kenny was offered a teaching and coaching position at East Orange High School, his high school alma mater. There, Macklin served as an assistant football, baseball, and basketball coach, before landing the Head Basketball coaching job. Coach Macklin was a part of several state championship teams as a coach at East Orange High. Also, during that same period, Macklin played in the EBA, ranking in the top five in scoring for several seasons. Coach Macklin then went on to serve as the Head Coach of the Jersey Blazers of the old Eastern Basketball League (EBA).

Kenny is a widower and has a set of twins, Kenny Jr. and Kia. Coach Macklin recently became a grandfather, Zaine, a boy via his son, and Nalya, a girl, via his daughter.

 


 

Assistant Coach Rob Bragonier

Rob Bragonier is in his fifth season as part-time assistant coach of the Penn State Altoona Cougars. Rob's primary duties include, recruiting, fund raising and daily practice planning. Rob is employed, full time, as the manager of Pro-Active Sports, a sporting goods store located in Holidaysburg, Pa. Macklin states, "Rob is a very knowledgeable about the game of basketball. He is a valuable member of our basketball program and I don't know what I would do without his commtiment and dedication."

Rob is single, enjoys playing golf and horse racing.
