Writing Perl/CGI Scripts for ITS/ASET Web services

What's covered in this session

   Up |The Basic "What?"s - Next ->

This session will cover an introductory lesson in writing a Perl CGI script, passing data over CGI parameters, techniques for writing and debugging CGI programs, advanced topics such as saving data in files and authentication, and information specific to Penn State servers.

Requisites

This tutorial is designed specifically for Web content editors (and laypeople) with Penn State Access Accounts, PASS, and Personal Web space using Microsoft Windows XP, WordPad, and SSH Secure File Transfer (part of SSH Secure Shell) for Windows. Those outside of this target may still learn something, especially if you are familiar with/have access to alternate tools/servers. Your milage may vary.

I will assume some basic knowledge (or courage) in HTML and client/server Web concepts.

Those who are familiar with programming, Perl and/or CGI may enrich their knowledge with this session. However, care has been taken to provide a brief introduction to those new to Perl and those new to programming.
