SICS ON THE LIST OF THE 15 MOST ACKNOWLEDGED INSTITUTIONS IN THE WORLD. (In English and Swedish.)

According to an article in PNAS, Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences (Dec 21 2004), SICS ranks the 15th most acknowledged research institution in the world in the field of computer science. SICS is the only Swedish institution on the list, and second in Europe. The other 13 are all U.S. institutes and universities.

The authors C. Lee Giles and Isaac G. Councill have "developed automated methods for acknowledgement extraction and analysis and show that combining acknowledgement analysis with citation indexing yields a measurable impact of the efficacy of various individuals as well as government, corporate, and university sponsors of scientific work."

The authors are earlier known for CiteSeer, the largest digital library for computer science articles.

SICS dataforskning i världstopp!

SICS, Swedish Institute of Computer Science, rankas som en av världens mest erkända forskningsinstitutioner inom datavetenskap, enligt en artikel i prestigefyllda PNAS, Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (21 december, 2004). SICS är den enda svenska institutionen på topp-15-listan, som för övrigt består av 13 amerikanska och en fransk institution.

Författarna till artikeln, C. Lee Giles och Isaac G. Councill, har utvecklat metoder för att automatiskt extrahera och analysera begreppet "erkännande". De visar att man genom att kombinera traditionell referensfrekvens med en analys av andra erkännanden i vetenskapliga artiklar, kan mäta effekten av såväl enskilda personers som organisationers påverkan på forskningsvärlden.
